Shading analysis
Analyze how shadows affect the system performance throughout the year.
Gain precise insights into potential shading losses and identify the best design options to maximise energy yield.

Design the roof
Start from satellite maps, high-resolution imagery, or drone ortophotos. Model the roof accurately, including obstacles, angles, and surfaces.

Add modules, strings, and inverters
Lay out your PV modules, configure string connections, and choose compatible inverters — all within the same intuitive environment.

Shading Simulation

FAQs
How accurate is the shading simulation?
Our shading tool uses the provided 3D geometry that was provided in the planning step. This is combined with precise solar path calculations. Theaccuracy of the results depends on the quality of your input data (e.g., roof model and surrounding objects), but results are highly reliable for both residential and commercial systems. To get the highest shadow resolution we recommend using photogrammetry models which can be created in Reonic from drone images.
Can I perform shading analysis based on drone imagery?
Yes. You can import drone scans or 3D models directly into the platform. The shading simulation works for all data sources — whether you create the models yourself, generate them from images or use the Google 3D Map tile data.
Does the shading analysis affect yield simulation?
Absolutely. The shading results directly influence your energy yield calculations, ensuring your final performance prediction reflects real-world conditions.
Can I see how shadows change during the day or across seasons?
Yes. You can simulate sunlight movement throughout the day and across all four seasons, helping you understand both temporary and persistent shading effects.
How fast is the shading simulation?
Simulating takes a few seconds to at most up to a minute for very large models of commercial rooftops. The live shadow simulation which shows the sun path of an exemplary day runs in real-time and can be paused to better understand the shadows impact at each point throughout the day.
